The villagers are in a good mood and have a high enthusiasm for development. However, Xiao Shuguang found that the villagers were limited to the self-sufficient life of "raising pigs for the New Year, exchanging eggs for oil and salt, and farming for a round belly", and lacked the industrial support to get rid of poverty and become rich and well-off.

Therefore, Xiao Shuguang visited Henan, Hunan, Huanggang, Enshi and other places at his own expense, and personally tried to plant a variety of industrial seedlings. Honeysuckle is a new variety of Chinese herbal medicine promoted by him. In order to dispel villagers’ concerns, he took village cadres and some poor people to Yidu and other places for study, visited neighboring villages to see the effect of trial growers, formulated preferential policies and reward and compensation measures, and introduced cooperatives to ensure the income of growers. In 2019 alone, the whole village was covered by one household and one mu, and the planting area has reached 460 mu, with a comprehensive benefit of more than 5,000 yuan per mu.

Under the leadership of Xiao Shuguang, the two village committees have broadened the road of industrial poverty alleviation. By the end of 2019, Hongqiping Village had built the county’s first collective agricultural tourism development enterprise led by the village committee, built a village collective convenience charity supermarket, established a comprehensive processing factory for Chinese herbal medicines covering the whole town, a alpine vegetable seedling supply factory and a cold storage logistics distribution base serving three towns in the county, built and introduced 12 professional cooperatives, 3 family farms, 2 agricultural companies and 2 agricultural tourism investment comprehensive development enterprises, and built the Hongqiping Village industrial poverty alleviation demonstration park.

Today, all 172 poor households in the village have been lifted out of poverty as scheduled, and the per capita income of villagers has increased from 3,018 yuan in 2014 to more than 15,000 yuan in 2020. A deep poverty-stricken village with "old and young living in poverty" has developed into a "Hongqi Village" with prosperous industry and civilized village style.
